Media Parity Index
CAWTAR has recently pioneered a "Media Parity Index" to measure the inequality between men and women in the media and highlight the gender gap within media institutions. The index covers three dimensions of gender parity:

1. The professional status which is calculated based on the number of male and female journalists, their level of responsibility (administrative or editorial), and their membership in journalists syndicates or professional associations.

2. The media production which is calculated on the basis of variables by sex such as, editorials, columns, principle articles, reporting and non published articles.

3. Capacity building and opportunities which are calculated on the basis of how male and female journalists benefit from trainings, missions, promotions and salaries.

This index is largely based on the conclusions of the Arab Woman Development Report (AWDR) "Arab Woman and the Media: Analytical Study of Research Conducted between 1995 and 2005".
